My name is Chetan Raina, and I’m the chief financial officer and editor-at-large at Canadian Affairs. Being married to Publisher & Editor Lauren Heuser also makes me the staff “nepo baby.” 

As CFO, I have a front-row seat to startup life, which I’d describe as both exhilarating and exhausting. It’s been exciting to watch Canadian Affairs’ reach and output grow over the past 2.5 years, and to strategize with Lauren about where we hope to take the organization in the coming years. 

As editor-at-large, I get to be the final set of eyes on many stories before they’re published. I scout for story ideas by voraciously consuming the news. And I pen the odd column, typically on personal finance, a topic near and dear to my heart.

As someone with an eye on the organization’s books, I can say how much we celebrate and value each new subscriber. Paid subscriptions tell us we’re offering a product readers value, and are on a path to building a sustainable business.

We’ve been working to add 100 new paid subscribers by the end of 2025. Today, we’re still 25 subscribers short of that goal. Help us reach it!
